During the holiday season last year, a customer at work asked me if she could buy a gift card for one of our store employees whom she felt was such a hard worker and someone she felt was not truly appreciated. She asked if I could hand over the gift card because she wanted her "act of kindness" to remain anonymous. After I eagerly agreed to be the messenger, we began to talk about ways we could help others anonymously in our daily lives. I told her about a decision I had made not long ago to start a personal "Prayer Project." I select someone, usually someone I don't even know, who I have seen during my day and I say a prayer for them right then. It is usually someone I see while I'm driving. It could be a mother struggling with children, or a homeless person traveling who knows where with all they own, or perhaps a man or woman out in all sorts of weather trying their hardest to lead a healthier lifestyle. I just let my conscious guide me to what I feel they need. More often than not, I just ask God to give them a blessing that day- something to let them know in a very personal way that God is with them and that they are not alone. What I like about choosing someone I don't know or have personal knowledge of is that it requires faith on my part. Although I may not see the results of my prayer, I have grown in faith strength. Prayer is powerful. It blesses both the giver and the recipient. It gives me such joy as I imagine what God will deliver to those I have prayed over. A helping hand to the struggling mother at just the right moment, a kind word or meal to the homeless or an encouraging word to one struggling with fitness. I am just the anonymous prayer messenger. God is the Project Manager. And for that I am grateful.
