The Time of Singing has Come

I've always loved the changing of the seasons. Winter has its quiet solitude. A tranquil walk in the woods on a snowy day. A time to reflect inward and enjoy one's own company.

However, I've always felt a pang of guilt for enjoying winter knowing the hardship it causes wildlife. I know that God created them to adapt and survive this season; nevertheless, it can't be easy.
I look forward to walking in the woods at the beginning of spring. Gone is the silence and slower pace of winter. Nature is busying itself for renewal and is rejoicing in it. One of the most evident signs that something has changed is bird song. While you see many birds during winter, they are usually seeking shelter or food. There are no melodies, no love songs in flight. Oh, but in spring!!! The chorus is unceasing!

It's a "busy as a bee" time. Time for mate choosing, nest building and baby-making. Time for growing, playing and rejoicing in the abundance of God's bounty.
"For the winter is passed.
The rain is over and gone.
   The flowers are springing up.
And the time of the singing of the birds has come."

Song of Solomon 2:11-12
